Question: What does knit up mean in knitting?

Is knit up the same as pick up?

“Pick up and knit” means this: to use a needle to pull new loops of the working yarn through an existing piece of fabric, usually along an edge. “Picking up and knitting” is more commonly done than plain old “picking up”. But this opens up a whole other can of worms.

How do I know how many stitches to pick up?

How to Calculate the Correct Number of Stitches to Pick Up

  1. Measure the edge of the fabric you are working into.
  2. Measure the gauge of the trim you are adding.
  3. Multiply the number of stitches per 1cm in the trim by the length of the fabric you are working into.
