Should you size up quilt?

Should I upsize my duvet?

It is not necessary to upsize your bedspread as bedspreads are designed to come to floor. Comfort layers on mattresses and height of legs will always be a factor so it is a good idea to measure your bed to ensure the bedspread sits as desired.

How do you pick a quilt size?

Typically quilts terminate at the head end of the bed; however, you may want to add 24 to 40 inches to the desired length only, creating a tuck for pillows. For example, a double bed — 54 by 75 inches — with a 16-inch mattress needs a coverlet-sized quilt 88 inches wide and either 91 or 116 to132 inches long.

How is a quilt supposed to fit a bed?

Designers follow no hard and fast rule (when determining the finished sizes) that a large quilt should fit a bed nicely—i.e. that there is an even overhang off the sides, and it is both wide enough and long enough to cover the mattress.

Does duvet cover need to be same size as duvet?

We advise you purchase a comforter that is the same size or a bit bigger (~1-2 inches) than the duvet cover. Duvet covers are meant to be washed and will experience fabric shrinkage. So even if your duvet cover measures the same as your comforter, it will likely shrink 3-5% and fit more snugly over your comforter.
