Does the Slipknot count as a chain?
Whenever you are working from a pattern it will start off by telling you how many crochet chains to make. Never count your first slipknot or the loop on the hook (called the working loop).
Why do you think chain stitch is the foundation of all crochet stitches?
Foundation stitches make working into the other side of the stitch easier and looks cleaner. If your pattern calls for turning and working into the bottom of your foundation, such as adding a trim, ribbing, or working a mirror pattern, the foundation stitches create the perfect base.
Why does my foundation chain curl?
Sometimes your foundation chain can be the source of your curling woes. Either it is too loose, so that whatever stitch you put into it pulls it out of shape, or it is too tight and pulls the other way. Or the chain itself can twist so you inadvertently put a curl into the project.
What is the foundation of all crochet work?
What is this? The foundation of so many crochet patterns involve a chain of x stitches followed by working sc/dc into the chain.
